FAQs
Do I have to be an artist or weaver to join a trip?
Everyone is welcome. All of our workshops are all-levels, meaning we can accommodate total beginners to advanced level. Craft has a way of brining people together; our guests always find a common thread, even with different experience levels.
Why should I go on a Thread Caravan trip?
Thread Caravan trips provide an intimate and connected form of travel. In just a week's time, we introduce you directly to local makers whom you'll get to work with to learn a traditional craft.
These trips are great for people who may already have an artistic hobby and want to take it to the next level, for people who want to learn a new skill, or for people who just want to travel in a more intentional and connected way.
Who goes on a Thread Caravan trip?
Thread Caravan trips are open to anyone 18 years or older. During our trips we take local modes of transport, try local cuisine and partake in adventurous activities. The trips usually attract open-minded travelers.
You don't have to be an artist to come on the trips! We connect with the local artisans in a way that accommodates both beginners and experienced artist travelers.
Our trips are open to single travelers and groups. Don't worry about traveling with a friend - you will likely become friends with the other travelers on the trip you join.
How many people are on each trip?
Each trip has 4 - 12 people. We like to keep it small so everyone has the opportunity to really get to know each other.
When will you announce more trips?
As a small company, we do our best to offer trips as frequently as possible without spreading ourselves too thin. You can stay up to date with new trip date announcements by following us on Instagram or signing up for our email list. Additionally, you can sign up for trip waitlists on this page of our website.
Will I have free time?
Each trip is a little different. As travel guides, we want to show you the best of each destination we take you to. In addition to including a set schedule of some of our favorite activities, our itineraries also include flexible time periods where travelers are free to venture solo or choose from a list of suggestions.
Are the trips women-only?
Everyone is welcome, regardless of gender identity.
How do payments work?
For each trip, a non-refundable deposit will secure your spot. The rest of the payment is due at least two months prior to the start of the trip.
What’s Included in the Trip Cost?
This also varies a little bit with each trip. Typically, cost includes everything once you arrive in the country except alcohol and extra spending money. Make sure to read the information for the trip you're booking so you know exactly what's included and what's not.
What’s Not Included in the Trip Cost?
Airfare, travel insurance, and alcohol.
What If I Don’t Want to Purchase Travel Insurance?
We strongly advise you to purchase travel insurance. This is mostly in case you have to cancel the trip unexpectedly. Thread Caravan is not liable to refund you if you cancel within a month prior to the trip. If you have travel insurance, you will be able to be refunded by the insurance company.
Travel insurance will also cover things like theft, illness, etc. during the trip.
Please contact us if you need advice about which plan to book.
Will I Need a Travel VISA?
Whether or not you need a Visa will depend on your home country and the country we're visiting. If you are a U.S. citizen, you do not need a Visa for any of the countries we currently offer trips to (if you are only traveling the length of our trip). If you plan to stay longer, or are not from the U.S., you should inquire about a Visa with your embassy. We are also happy to help you figure this out.
